Walk in town, at park

Ozark Hill Hikers invite all walkers to join two walks. There is a $4 fee for each walk.

A walk will be held Tuesday, May 21 in Bella Vista. Registration is from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at CVS Pharmacy, 2833 Bella Vista Way. Walkers will choose either 5- or 10-kilometer walk. Routes follow trails through Blowing Springs Park, Sugar Creek Soccer Park and Veterans Wall of Honor.

On Wednesday, walkers are invited to join a walk at the Pea Ridge National Military Park. Registration is from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the visitor center, 15930 U.S. 62 East, in Garfield. Routes of 5- or 10-kilometers will be available. The walk is on the paved tour road through the Civil War battlefield.

Membership dues to the Ozark Hill Hikers are $12 a year prorated $1 for each month remaining in the calendar year. For more information, email bvvohh@gmail.com or call (479) 381-9366.

Meador tops Elite anglers

Steven Meador won the Beaver Lake Elite Series bass tournament held May 11 out of Prairie Creek park. His five-bass tournament limit weighed 18.94 pounds. He also had the tournament's big bass at 5.45 pounds.

Hunter Jordan was second with five bass at 15.8 pounds. Travis Fox placed third with five bass at 15.31 pounds.

Fourth through 10th, all with five bass, were: fourth Randy Dodd, 15.13; fifth, Ronnie Eldridge, 15.12; sixth, Jay Nyce, 14.64; seventh, Jason Sandidge, also 14.64 (Nyce's largest bass was heavier than Sandidge's largest); eighth, Keith Brashers, 14.25; ninth, Collin Cheatham, 13.27; 10th, Roger Easley, 13.21.

Dam Site goes dry

Alcohol is prohibited at Dam Site North Park on Beaver Lake, according to the Army Corps of Engineers.

Chief Ranger Landon Thurman said the corps has received several reports from concerned visitors and businesses about littering, vandalism and public indecency from inebriated individuals at the park. The measure took effect Monday, May 20. Those found with alcohol will be asked to pour it out and leave the park. Failure to cooperate may result in a citation to appear in federal court.

Hike to see sunrise

A sunrise hike to the Yellow Rock overlook at Devil's Den State Park is set for 5 to 8 a.m. on May 31. Staff at the J.B. And Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center in Springdale will host the hike. Meet at 5 a.m. at the Yellowrock Trailhead near Campground A. Headlamps and flashlights will be provided.

It's a 1.5-mile hike of moderate difficulty to the overlook 300 feet above Lee Creek. Registration is required. Call (833) 356-0847 or go to agfc.com to register.

Birders to see sanctuary

Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society and the Northwest Arkansas Land Trust will co-lead a field trip to Betty Hinshaw Bird Sanctuary in Springdale at 9 a.m. on June 8. Birders will have the opportunity to explore this newly protected 25-acre sanctuary along Wildcat Creek, guided by a land trust representative who will share management plans to support grassland birds.

The trip will consist a mile of hiking around a former farm pasture with flat but uneven ground. Anyone interested in birds is welcome. Audubon membership isn't required. Participants are asked to register for the trip at trips@nwarkaudubon.org with the trip name, your name and the number attending.

Hike with a guide

Guided hikes at the Ozark Natural Science Center in Madison County will be held at 9 a.m. the first Saturday of each month through December. Hikes are with the center's teacher naturalists. Hikes are by donation. Registration is required. Visit onsc.us/events to sign up.

Camp welcomes youth

Ozark Natural Science Center's Fledgling Summer Camp for youths 9-14 is set for June 6-7 at the center in Madison County.

Students get an authentic science learning experience, which provides in-depth education in biology, ecology, geology, social studies and nature art all while students have fun hiking and exploring nature.

The Fledgling Camp is designed to be an introductory overnight camp experience for children who may not have been away from home before or would prefer a short time at camp.

Cost is $165. Go to onsc.us/events to register.

Run Coler trails

Registration is open for the third annual Paradise Found 5-kilometer trail run set for 7 a.m. on July 13 at Coler Mountain Bike Preserve in Bentonville. Race start is at the Homestead near Airship Coffee at the preserve. It is limited to 300 runners.

Entry fee is $35. Visit peelcompton.org/events to register.
